Thy hands have made me and fashioned me: give me understanding, that I may learn thy commandments.
Psalms 119:73
I have adopted the nickname / handle Learner in 1994 when I was active in Bulletin Board Systems. At that time, I did not have a PC at home and hence Internet was a luxury.
I continued to use the moniker when I finally have access to the Internet. Some have asked me why Learner? The reason is simple, I want to remind myself that I am constantly learning everyday from everybody. And now that the LORD is my guide, I shall be learning more each day.
Each day, by the grace of the LORD, I am learning from my wife, my son (3, going to be 4 next January), my parents, my siblings, my pastors, my friends, my colleagues, my clients and generally anyone that I meet. I thank God for blessing me with all these good people and the opportunity to learn from them.
The first thing I like to share is about the resources the LORD has provided for us.
Supposed we have RM 86,400.00 (substitute RM, Ringgit Malaysia with your local currency) placed into our account everyday. What would we do with it? Will we spend some on assets? Some on learning? Some on entertainment? How much will we give to the LORD? Will we still pay our tithes?
Now let's say that the balance, however much is left will be cleared at the end of the day. Would you make good use of the amount?
Now it gets more interesting. Say the same amount will be replenished everyday. Wow! Imagine RM 86,400.00 at our disposal everyday! There is so much we can do!
My friend, we do have 86,400 units of resources everyday. And it is given equally to everyone, poor or rich, weak or strong. It is given at the beginning of the day and it will finish by the end of the day.
We have 86,400 seconds or 1,440 minutes or 24 hours a day. How do we make us of this precious resource? Do we waste it? Do we make good use of it?
If we are to give one tenth of whatever we get to God, then we should be giving 2.4 hours or 2 hours and 24 minutes everyday to the LORD. Are we doing that? Some of us have problem giving one hour or even 10 minutes to the LORD everyday. Some will say a hasty prayer before going to work. Some will simply have no time.
Dear brothers and sisters, we need to spend time with our Father who is in heaven. We need to come to Him and tell Him our needs. We need to confess our sins. We need to ask for strength and wisdom to be a good witness. Most important of all, we need to praise Him for what He has done and what He is going to do. We need to worship for who He is.
We spend time relaxing, doing our work, which is ever important, having fun, watching TV. Fine, but have we spent time with our Saviour, who has died for us on the cross. He gave His life for us, what are we giving in return? Surely indifference will not do.
Dear brothers and sister, I would like to encourage you to spend your time wisely. It is one of the most precious resources given by the Almighty God. How we are going to spend time in the future depends very much on how we are spending our time now. We are harvesting from what we planted in the past. And we are going to reap the harvest of what we sow now. We have to be diligent in the watering and tending. Then only we can hope to reap a full harvest.
May the LORD guide us on how to use our time. Amen
